We have now received a few new shipments of Snus. New in our coffee and smoothie bar is ONYX which is Generals most exclusive Snus. This is also stronger than normal snus and contains about 11 mg Nicotine per pouch. Upon opening the exclusive can you will find that the portions are black. Which make it fairly unique compared to other portion snus. Basically you have an “Onyx” colored pouch. Not only that but it is arranged in a cicular pattern making or like a Star Pattern (which Swedish Match calls it).

Coffee shop expansion

Just one day prior to Christmas we finalized the expansion project for the new lounge area. Besides a new toilette we have added a sofa and a few more tables to cater for our guests.

Our previous area could get a little bit crowded at times and this expansion will hopefully enhance our guests experience when visiting our place.

It’s been a while since we updated this blog. No excuses but we are currently expanding the Coffee & Smoothie bar at Jl. Pantai Sindhu no. 7. New outdoor seating area, indoor lounge and guest bathroom is currently being made…

We had a lot of request for snus lately from our Scandinavian guests. I’m happy to inform that we received a new shipment yesterday.

Customs in Indonesia

Indonesia has a lot of great things and it is hard not to like the country. However there are also some things that can make life frustrating here. One thing is dealing with customs… A month ago I tried to find a nike sensor for my Ipod. In Bali they did not have this product so I had to order it from the US… Needless to say the customs gave me a hard time bu issuing an 80% import duty on the product. Yes… I know… It is not a 80% import duty on electronics but the customs decided to “revalue” the product to such a price that I had to pay the same import duty as I would have paid if I bought a new ipod. Obviously this makes you wonder if the customs cannot see the difference between an Ipod and an Ipod accessory.

I complained to DHL but they simply stated that you cannot file a complaint to the customs unless the value is over 5000 USD. So in the end I had to pay excessive duties for my little Nike sensor for my Ipod… I learnt during this experience that goods valued under 50USD does not have any import duties at all. So if I would have ordered the item in a separate package I would probably not have had to pay any custom duties at all. After all purchase price was around 25 USD and weight 200grams…

So lesson learnt.. It may be cheaper overall if you can ship many small packages to Indonesia rather than consolidating several packages into one large package with a value over 50 USD. It will hopefully save you some frustrating times with customs and money…

With support from KarmaGraphic in Bali, we managed to make a small promotional video for our Coffee & Smoothie bar. This will be aired by QSi in Jakarta-Kota railway station close to Batavia during September as a test to see if it can generate some webtraffic…

LifeFood diet

Approximately two weeks ago myself and my friend Johan from Café Smörgås started a LifeFood detox fasting period. We followed the guidelines provided by a LifeFood recipe book written by David and Annie Jubb. Honestly it was about time. With the football world championships in South Africa this summer we had a few beers to much and enjoyed to many good spare ribs in the locals sports bars here in Sanur, Bali.

LifeFood diet means that we where only allowed to eat salad and fruit that has not been cooked in order to keep all enzymes. Life force foods are those found wild in nature and served uncooked. Having a smoothie bar filled with organic vegetables, fruits etc., it was not a problem having enough food to eat. Mainly the hardest part was the mental challenge and especially during the first days of the fast… Luckily we where allowed to eat supplements (minerals, vitamins etc) which helped a lot.

Another hard challenge was how to handle the social life. Yesterday I joined my wife (Maya) and her family to a restaurant for her birthday celebration. There was not much I could eat and to be honest social life is not what it should be during a fast. Most of my friends enjoy spare ribs, steaks, beers etc. and to keep a sane mind I simply have had to avoid joining my friends on their nights out in Bali during the fasting.

Results? Well I must say that Johan and me did continue our average of 3 runs per week during the fast and that probably impacted the great weight-loss we achieved. I was 85.3kg 3 weeks ago and this morning after breakfast I was 80.7kg… I know Johan lost a few kg as well… Considering the fasting included liver cleansing etc., I think overall my cholesterol levels are much lower than before. I guess next time I go through this fast I will have a medical check before and after the fast to see the exact results…

Anyway I’m happy the period is over for this time…
